Naoki Ishikawa (石川 直樹, born 13 September 1985) is a Japanese former professional footballer. He played as a defender, which means his main job was to stop the other team from scoring goals. He played for several different clubs in Japan during his career.
Football Journey
Naoki Ishikawa was born and grew up in Kashiwa, a city in Japan. He started his football journey at a young age. He joined the youth team of Kashiwa Reysol, a professional football club. He worked his way up through their training program. By 2003, he was part of their reserve squad.
He became a full-time professional player with Kashiwa Reysol in 2004. His first game for the main team was on 23 October 2005. He played against another team called Kawasaki Frontale. In 2008, he was chosen to be the players' chairperson for his team. This means he helped represent the players.
In early 2009, Naoki Ishikawa moved to Consadole Sapporo on a loan. A loan means he played for them for a set time, but still belonged to Kashiwa Reysol. At Consadole Sapporo, he met his old coach, Nobuhiro Ishizaki, again. He quickly became a very important player for the team. In 2010, he was even made the team captain.
After playing for Consadole Sapporo, Ishikawa made a permanent move to Albirex Niigata in 2011. He continued to play as a defender for them. Later in his career, he also played for Vegalta Sendai and returned to Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo before he stopped playing professionally at the end of the 2020 season. He played a total of 330 games in his professional career.
