Naomi Wendy Climer (born December 18, 1964) is a famous British engineer. She has worked with big companies like the BBC and Sony. Naomi Climer was the very first woman to be the President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). She also helped start and leads the Institute for the Future of Work.

Early Life and Education

Naomi Climer went to Gainsborough High School. This school is now called Queen Elizabeth High School. She then studied at Imperial College London. In 1986, she earned a special degree. It was a joint degree in Chemistry and Management Science.

A Career in Engineering

Naomi Climer has had an amazing career in engineering. She has worked in many different areas. These include broadcasting, media, and communication technology.

Starting at the BBC

Naomi Climer began her engineering journey at the BBC in 1987. She trained alongside another well-known engineer, Kate Bellingham. She worked in important places like BBC Broadcasting House. She also worked at BBC World Service at Bush House. Later, she became the Controller of Technology for BBC News. From 1998 to 2000, she was also a Director for the Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit.

Working with Sony

In 2002, Naomi Climer joined Sony Professional Solutions Europe. She started as a director for professional services. By 2006, she was the vice president, leading the entire business. During her time at Sony, she helped the company grow into new markets. She also helped Sony buy Hawk-Eye, a company known for sports technology. Naomi Climer also worked to make Sony more environmentally friendly. She started the "50:50 campaign" to encourage more women in engineering.

Leading the IET

Naomi Climer was a leader at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). She was a Trustee from 2009 to 2017. She became Deputy President in 2012. Then, in September 2015, she made history. She was also named one of the Top 50 Influential Women in Engineering in the UK. This was by the Daily Telegraph and the Women's Engineering Society (WES) in 2016. Computer Weekly also named her one of the top 50 most influential women in IT in the UK in 2015 and 2016.

Commander of the Order of the British Empire

In 2018, Naomi Climer received a very special award. She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). This honor was given to her for her great services to the engineering profession.
