Naomi Murakawa is an American political scientist. This means she studies how governments work and how people make political decisions. She is also an associate professor of African-American studies at Princeton University. This field looks at the history and culture of African Americans.
Professor Murakawa went to Columbia University for her first degree. She then studied at the London School of Economics and earned her Ph.D. from Yale University.

Professor Murakawa is well known for her book, The First Civil Right, which came out in 2014. In this book, she talks about why so many people are in prison in the United States. This is often called "mass incarceration."
