Narendra Kumar Swain (born June 25, 1939 – died September 7, 2020) was an important Indian politician from the state of Odisha. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha, which is like the upper house of India's Parliament. He was chosen to represent Odisha without anyone running against him, as a candidate for the Biju Janata Dal party. Narendra Kumar Swain passed away on September 7, 2020, after receiving medical care in Cuttack.

Narendra Kumar Swain was born in Tandikana, a place in the Cuttack district of Odisha. He studied hard and earned degrees in B.A. and LL.B. from Christ College and Madhusudan Law College in Cuttack. Besides being a politician, he was also known as a social worker and an advocate (a type of lawyer).

Narendra Kumar Swain had a long career in politics, joining different parties over the years.
Early Political Steps
He first joined the Communist Party of India in 1968. He stayed with this party for many years, leaving it in 1990.
Joining Janata Dal
In 1990, he joined a new political party called Janata Dal. He quickly became an important leader there. By 1992, he was made the General Secretary of the Odisha branch of the Janata Dal. A General Secretary is a key person who helps manage the party's daily activities and plans.
Moving to Biju Janata Dal
Later, when Naveen Patnaik formed a new party called Biju Janata Dal in Odisha, Narendra Kumar Swain joined him in 2000. He continued to be a significant leader in this new party. In 2001, he was again appointed as its General Secretary.
