Nate Carr is a famous American wrestler. He was born on June 24, 1960. He grew up in a very big family with 16 children in Erie, Pennsylvania. Many of his brothers were also great wrestlers. Five of them, including Nate, became "All-American" wrestlers, which is a record! Nate and one of his brothers even wrestled in the Olympic Games. In 2003, Nate was added to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame because he was such an amazing wrestler.

High School Wrestling
Nate went to Erie Tech High School. His coach was Tom Carr, who was not related to him. Nate was an amazing high school wrestler. He won 115 matches and only lost 7! He even won a state championship in Pennsylvania.
College Wrestling
After high school, Nate got a scholarship to wrestle at Iowa State University. He continued to be a fantastic wrestler there. He won 117 matches and only lost 20. He wrestled in the 150-pound weight class. Nate won three big national championships called the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. He also won two titles in the Big Eight Conference.
International Wrestling Career
After college, Nate continued his wrestling career at an international level. In 1983, he earned a spot on the US World Team. This meant he was one of the best wrestlers in the country. In 1986, he won two important competitions: the World Cup and the Pan-American Championships.
Nate trained hard for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. He was also an assistant coach at West Virginia University at the time. While at the Olympics, Nate stayed focused on winning. He didn't join in any fun activities because he wanted to concentrate on his goal. At the 1988 Olympics, Nate wrestled very well. He won a bronze medal, which is a huge achievement! Some people thought there might have been a scoring mistake in his semifinal match.
He returned to the US World Team in 1990. That same year, he won his weight class at the Goodwill Games.
Life After Wrestling
After his wrestling career, Nate Carr became an assistant coach at West Virginia University. Later, he moved to Jones County, Georgia. His son, Nate Carr Jr., also became a very good wrestler. Nate Jr. was a top high school wrestler and won three state championships. He later won a national title in college.
Today, Nate Carr works as a head coach at Iowa State University. His youngest son, David, is also a wrestler on the Iowa State team. David has followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a two-time NCAA Champion for Iowa State in 2021 and 2024.
