Nate Carr was born on June 24, 1960. He is a famous American former wrestling champion. Nate grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania, in a very large family with 16 children!
Five of his siblings, including Nate, became "All-American" wrestlers. This is a special award for top college athletes. Two of them, Nate included, even competed in the Olympic Games. In 2003, Nate Carr was honored in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

High School Wrestling Success
Nate Carr went to Erie Tech High School. His coach there was Tom Carr, who was not related to him. Nate had an amazing high school record, winning 115 matches and losing only 7. He also won a state championship in Pennsylvania.
College Wrestling Career
After high school, Nate received a scholarship to wrestle at Iowa State University. He continued to be a top wrestler there. He won 117 matches, lost 20, and had one tie.
Nate competed in the 150-pound weight class. He won three NCAA wrestling titles. He also won two titles in the Big Eight Conference.
International Wrestling Achievements
After college, Nate Carr kept wrestling at an international level. In 1983, he joined the US World Team. This meant he was one of the best wrestlers in the country.
In 1986, Nate won two big international events. He won the World Cup and the Pan-American Championships.
The 1988 Olympics
Nate trained hard for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. He was also an assistant coach at West Virginia University at the time. While at the Olympics, Nate stayed focused on winning a gold medal. He avoided fun activities to keep his mind on the competition.
At the 1988 Olympics, Nate Carr reached the semifinal match. He did not win that match, but he wrestled again to earn the bronze medal. There were some questions about the scoring in his semifinal match.
In 1990, Nate was again part of the US World Team. He also won his weight class at the Goodwill Games.
Life After Competing
After his wrestling career, Nate Carr became an assistant coach at West Virginia University. Later, he moved to Jones County, Georgia.
Nate's son, Nate Carr, Jr., also became a talented wrestler. He was a top high school wrestler and won three state championships. Nate Jr. went on to win a national title in college at Iowa Central Community College.
Today, Nate Carr works as a head club coach at Iowa State University. His youngest son, David, is also a wrestler there. David has become a two-time NCAA Champion for Iowa State, winning titles in 2021 and 2024.
