Nathanael Salmon (born March 22, 1675 – died April 2, 1742) was an English historian who studied old things. He wrote many books about ancient Roman items and other old discoveries found in the south-east of England. Even though some people didn't think he was a great scholar, he worked very hard and traveled a lot. He was good at writing down local traditions and old stories, also known as folklore.

Early Life and Education

Nathanael Salmon was born on March 22, 1675, in a place called Meppershall Rectory in Bedfordshire. He was the oldest son of Thomas Salmon, who was a church leader, and his wife Katherine Bradshaw. Nathanael went to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge to study.

Salmon's Work and Travels

Nathanael Salmon became a priest in 1699. However, he later chose to leave his church job. He then worked for a while as a physician, which is a doctor. He even turned down a good job offer as a church leader in Suffolk, even though it paid well.

Salmon spent his time writing many books about local history. He loved collecting old stories and details about how people lived in different places. He traveled all over England, carefully looking at the land and writing down the folklore he heard. He also recorded information about daily life and conditions in those times. While some people thought his historical facts weren't always perfect, his books were very useful because he published many old handwritten notes and documents.
