Nathaniel Mead was the son of William Mead. His father was a merchant, which means he bought and sold goods. Nathaniel started studying law at a famous place called Middle Temple in 1700. By 1704, he had finished his studies and became a lawyer. This meant he could represent people in court.

Becoming a Knight and a Serjeant-at-Law

In January 1715, Nathaniel Mead became a "Serjeant-at-law." This was a very high rank for a lawyer in England at that time. It meant he was one of the most important and respected lawyers. Soon after, on February 17, 1715, he was made a knight. This is why he is called "Sir" Nathaniel Mead. Being knighted is a special honor given by the King or Queen. He also worked as an under-steward for an area called Havering-atte-Bower.

His Time in Politics

Sir Nathaniel Mead was interested in politics and wanted to help lead the country. He tried to become a Member of Parliament (MP) several times. An MP is a person elected by the public to represent them in the House of Commons.

Elections and Being an MP

In the 1713 election, Sir Nathaniel tried to become the MP for a town called Aylesbury. He did not win that election. However, he tried again in the 1715 election. This time, he was successful and became the MP for Aylesbury. He served in the House of Commons until 1722. He did not run for election again in 1722.

Family and Later Life

Sir Nathaniel Mead was married twice. We do not know the name of his first wife. His second wife was Martha Scawen, whose father was Sir Thomas Scawen. Sir Nathaniel had two sons from his first marriage. With his second wife, he had another son and a daughter. Sir Nathaniel Mead passed away on April 15, 1760.
