The National Assembly (also called Assemblée nationale in French, and Lasanble Nasyonal in Seychellois Creole) is the main law-making body of the Seychelles. It is a unicameral legislature, which means it has only one group or "house" of members. This assembly helps run the country by creating and approving laws.

What the National Assembly Does
The National Assembly is like the parliament of Seychelles. Its main job is to make laws for the country. These laws affect everyone living in Seychelles. The members also discuss important issues and make decisions for the people.
How Members Are Chosen
The National Assembly has 35 members. These members are chosen in two main ways:
- Direct Elections: 26 members are elected directly by people in different areas called constituencies. In each area, the person who gets the most votes wins. This is known as the "First-past-the-post" system.
- Proportional Representation: Up to nine other members are chosen using a system called proportional representation. This system makes sure that smaller political parties also get a fair number of seats in the assembly, based on how many votes they receive overall.
All members of the National Assembly serve for five years. After five years, new elections are held to choose the next group of members.
Leaders of the Assembly
The National Assembly has important leaders who help it run smoothly.
- The Speaker of the National Assembly is like the chairperson of the meetings. The current Speaker is Roger Mancienne.
- There are also Deputy Speakers who help the Speaker.
- The Leader of the Opposition is a key person from the political party that is not in power. They make sure the government is doing its job well. The current Leader of the Opposition is Sebastien Pillay.
Where They Meet
The National Assembly meets at the National House in Victoria, Seychelles. This is where all the important discussions and decisions happen.
