What NOBLE Aims To Do
NOBLE wants to be known as a helpful group that works to solve problems in law enforcement. They also want to help meet the needs of African-American communities. Their goal is to improve policing and make sure justice is fair for everyone.
How NOBLE Started
NOBLE was founded in 1976. This happened during a three-day meeting where leaders talked about crime in cities. About 60 important Black police leaders from many different states and cities attended.
They discussed why crime was high in Black city areas. They also talked about how to make justice fair for everyone. Other topics included how police and communities could get along better. They also discussed how Black police officers are hired and promoted. The leaders realized that by working together, they could make a bigger difference. So, they decided to create NOBLE.
One of the people who helped start NOBLE was William R. Bracey. He was a former Chief of Patrol for the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
