Rodney Bryant is an American police officer. He served as the Chief of Police for the city of Atlanta. He held this important leadership role from June 13, 2020, until June 2, 2022.
Rodney Bryant's Education
Rodney Bryant worked hard in his studies. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree. This degree was in criminal justice. He received it from Georgia State University.
He continued his education further. He also earned a Master of Science degree. This advanced degree was in administration. He completed it at Central Michigan University.
His Career Journey
Rodney Bryant began his police career early. He joined the Atlanta Police Department in 1988. He started as a peace officer. This was before he went to college.
After getting his degrees, he took on more leadership roles. He served as a Police Executive Commander. This was within the City of Atlanta. In 2017, he was named Assistant Chief of Police. This meant he helped lead the entire department.
He also took on a national role. In 2016, he became Sergeant-at-Arms. This was for the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.
Becoming Chief of Police
In June 2020, Rodney Bryant became the interim Chief of Police. This happened after the previous chief, Erika Shields, resigned. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms asked him to step into this role. This change happened after a challenging situation in the city.
On May 4, 2021, he was officially appointed. He became the permanent Chief of Police. He served in this top position until June 2, 2022.
