This is a list of special places in Northeast Denver, Colorado that are on the National Register of Historic Places. These places are important because they tell us about history.
The National Register of Historic Places is like a special club for buildings, parks, and other spots that have a big story to tell about America's past. When a place is on this list, it means it's worth protecting and remembering for future generations.
Northeast Denver includes many neighborhoods. This list covers places east of the Platte River and north of Sixth Avenue. It does not include downtown areas like Capitol Hill or Five Points.
Denver has 300 places on the National Register. Northeast Denver is home to 72 of these amazing spots. Some even stretch into other parts of the city!

This section lists many of the cool and historic places you can find in Northeast Denver. Each one has a unique story!
Altamaha Apartments
The Altamaha Apartments are located at 1490 Lafayette Street in the Cheesman Park neighborhood. They were added to the National Register on May 5, 2004.
Annunciation Church
You can find the Annunciation Church at 3601 Humboldt Street in the Cole neighborhood. This church became a historic site on June 21, 1990.
Auraria 9th Street Historic District
The Auraria 9th Street Historic District is a special area on 9th Street, from Curtis to Champa Street, in Auraria. It was recognized as historic on March 26, 1973.
Austin Building
The Austin Building is located at 2400-2418 E. Colfax and 1472 Josephine Street in Congress Park. It joined the National Register on January 11, 1996.
Bastien's Restaurant
Bastien's Restaurant, at 3503 E. Colfax Avenue in City Park, became a historic listing on September 30, 2009. It's a well-known local spot.
Bats Grocery Store
Bats Grocery Store is at 4336 Clayton Street in Elyria Swansea. This old grocery store was added to the list on January 28, 1988.
Bluebird Theater
The Bluebird Theater, found at 3315-3317 E. Colfax Avenue in City Park, was listed on January 31, 1997. It's a popular music venue.
Bonfils Memorial Theatre
The Bonfils Memorial Theatre is at 1475 Elizabeth Street in Congress Park. It became a historic site on December 27, 2006.
Richard Crawford Campbell House
The Richard Crawford Campbell House is a historic home at 909 York Street in Cheesman Park. It was listed on July 3, 1979.
Delos Allen Chappell House
Located at 1555 Race Street in City Park West, the Delos Allen Chappell House was added to the National Register on June 3, 1982.
Cheesman Park
Cheesman Park itself is a historic district! It's roughly bordered by E. 13th Ave., High St., E. 8th Ave., and Franklin St. It was listed on September 17, 1986.
City Park
City Park is another large historic district. It's roughly bounded by E. 23rd Ave., Colorado Boulevard, E. 17th Ave., and York St. It became historic on September 17, 1986.
City Park Esplanade
The City Park Esplanade runs from E. Colfax Avenue to E. 17th Avenue within City Park. This beautiful pathway was listed on September 17, 1986.
City Park Golf
The City Park Golf area is roughly bounded by E. 26th Ave., Colorado Boulevard, E. 23rd Ave., and York St. in Skyland. It was recognized on September 17, 1986.
George W. Clayton Trust and College
The George W. Clayton Trust and College is at 3801 Martin Luther King Boulevard in Clayton. It became a historic district on May 2, 2006.
Cole Neighborhood Historic District
This historic district covers 3200-3300 Vine and Race Streets in the Cole neighborhood. It was listed on March 31, 1995.
Denver Medical Depot
The Denver Medical Depot, at 3800 York Street in Clayton, was added to the National Register on June 3, 1998.
Denver Orphans' Home
The Denver Orphans' Home is located at 1501 Albion Street in South Park Hill. It became a historic site on January 15, 1999.
Dow-Rosenzweig House
The Dow-Rosenzweig House, at 1129 E. 17th Avenue in City Park West, was listed on June 3, 1982.
Doyle-Benton House
You can find the Doyle-Benton House at 1301 Lafayette Street in Cheesman Park. It was added to the list on January 18, 2006.
East High School
East High School, at 1545 Detroit Street in City Park, is a historic building. It was listed on July 27, 2006.
East Sixth Avenue Parkway
The East Sixth Avenue Parkway stretches from Colorado Boulevard to Quebec Street. It runs through Hale and Montclair. It was listed on September 17, 1986, and also extends into Southeast Denver.
East Seventh Avenue Parkway
The East Seventh Avenue Parkway goes from Williams Street to Colorado Boulevard. It's in Country Club and Congress Park. It was added to the list on September 17, 1986.
East Seventeenth Avenue Parkway
This parkway runs from Colorado Boulevard to the Monaco Street Parkway in South Park Hill. It was listed on September 17, 1986.
Emmanuel Shearith Israel Chapel
The Emmanuel Shearith Israel Chapel is at 1201 10th Street in Auraria. It's one of the older listings, from December 1, 1969.
First Unitarian Society of Denver
The First Unitarian Society of Denver is located at 1400 Lafayette Street in City Park West. It was added to the National Register on July 14, 2017.
Forest Street Parkway
The Forest Street Parkway runs from 17th Avenue to Montview Boulevard in South Park Hill. It was listed on September 17, 1986.
Ernest LeNeve Foster House
The Ernest LeNeve Foster House is at 2105 Lafayette Street in City Park West. This house became a historic site on September 4, 1980.
Fountain Inn
The Fountain Inn, at 3015 East Colfax Avenue, was added to the National Register on July 27, 2020.
Russell and Elinor Gates Mansion
This mansion is located at 1365-1375 Josephine Street in Congress Park. It was listed on March 7, 2002.
House at 1750 Gilpin Street
The house at 1750 Gilpin Street in City Park West was recognized as historic on July 7, 2004.
Humboldt Street Historic District
This district covers Humboldt Street between E. 10th and E. 12th Streets in Cheesman Park. It was listed on December 29, 1978.
Owen E. LeFevre House
The Owen E. LeFevre House is at 1311 York Street in Cheesman Park. It became a historic site on August 13, 1976.
Macedonia Baptist Church
The Macedonia Baptist Church, at 3240 Adams Street in Clayton, was added to the National Register on April 6, 2015.
Peter McCourt House
The Peter McCourt House is at 1471 High Street in Cheesman Park. It was listed on May 9, 1983.
Midwest Steel and Iron Works Company Complex
This industrial complex is at 25 Larimer Street in Lincoln Park. It was recognized as historic on April 10, 1985.
Monaco Street Parkway
The Monaco Street Parkway runs from E. 1st Avenue to Montview Boulevard. It's in Montclair and South Park Hill. It was listed on September 17, 1986, and also extends into Southeast Denver.
Montclair Park
Montclair Park is roughly bounded by E. 12th Ave., Oneida St., and the Richthofen Parkway in Montclair. It was listed on September 17, 1986.
Montview Boulevard
Montview Boulevard goes from Colorado Boulevard to Monaco Street Parkway in South Park Hill. It was added to the list on October 1, 1986.
Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church
This church is at 1980 Dahlia Street in South Park Hill. It became a historic site on April 6, 2004.
Motor Coach Division Building-Denver Tramway Company
This building, at 3500 Gilpin Street in Cole, was listed on December 17, 1998. It was part of the old tramway system.
Park Hill
The Park Hill historic district is bounded by Colorado Boulevard, E. 26th Ave., Dahlia St., and E. Montview Boulevard. It includes North Park Hill and South Park Hill. It was listed on December 16, 2004.
Pearce-McAllister Cottage
The Pearce-McAllister Cottage is at 1880 Gaylord Street in City Park West. It was added to the National Register on June 20, 1972.
Peoples Presbyterian Church
Peoples Presbyterian Church, at 2780 York Street in Skyland, was listed on July 18, 2016.
Wilbur S. Raymond House
The Wilbur S. Raymond House is at 1572 Race Street in City Park West. It became a historic site on November 21, 1974.
Richthofen Castle
Richthofen Castle, at 7020 E. 12th Avenue in Montclair, is a unique historic building. It was listed on April 21, 1975.
Richthofen Monument
The Richthofen Monument is located at Richthofen Parkway at Oneida Street in Montclair. It was added to the list on September 17, 1986.
Richthofen Place Parkway
This parkway runs from the Monaco Street Parkway to Oneida Street in Montclair. It was listed on September 17, 1986.
Riverside Cemetery
Riverside Cemetery, at 5201 Brighton Boulevard in Elyria-Swansea, is a historic cemetery. It was listed on October 28, 1994, and also extends into Adams County.
Robinson House
The Robinson House is at 3435 Albion Street in Northeast Park Hill. It was recognized as historic on February 12, 2003.
St. Elizabeth's Church
St. Elizabeth's Church, at 1062 11th Street in Auraria, was listed on December 1, 1969.
St. Ignatius Loyola Church
This church is at the junction of E. 23rd Avenue and York Street in Whittier. It became a historic site on December 23, 1994.
St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Denver
St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Denver is at 600 Galapago in Lincoln Park. It was listed on June 3, 1982.
Saint Philomena Catholic Parish School
The Saint Philomena Catholic Parish School is at 940 Fillmore Street in Congress Park. It was added to the National Register on May 4, 2011.
Schlessinger House
The Schlessinger House, at 1544 Race Street in City Park West, was listed on November 14, 1979.
Smith House
The Smith House is at 1801 York Street in City Park West. It became a historic site on September 26, 1985.
Milo A. Smith House
The Milo A. Smith House is at 1360 Birch Street in Hale. It was listed on July 3, 1997.
Pierce T. Smith House
The Pierce T. Smith House is at 1751 Gilpin Street in City Park West. It was added to the National Register on September 20, 1984.
South Platte River Bridges
These bridges are part of Interstate 25 at milepost 210.53, near Auraria. They were listed on October 15, 2002, and also extend into West Denver.
Speer Boulevard
Speer Boulevard runs from W. Colfax Avenue to Downing Street in Lincoln Park. It was listed on September 17, 1986. This boulevard also extends into Downtown and Southeast Denver.
Stanley Arms
The Stanley Arms building is at 1321-1333 E. 10th Avenue in Cheesman Park. It was added to the National Register on July 15, 1999.
Stanley School-Montclair School
This historic school, now called Paddington Station Preschool, is at 1301 Quebec Street in Montclair. It was listed on February 13, 2007.
Sunken Gardens
Sunken Gardens is a park roughly bounded by Speer Boulevard, W. 8th Ave., Delaware, and Elati Streets in Lincoln Park. It was listed on September 17, 1986.
Tears-McFarlane House
The Tears-McFarlane House is at 1290 Williams Street in Cheesman Park. It became a historic site on January 11, 1976.
Tivoli Brewery Company
The Tivoli Brewery Company building is at 1320-1348 10th Street in Auraria. It was listed on April 11, 1973.
Treat Hall at Johnson & Wales University
Treat Hall is located at E. 18th Avenue and Pontiac Street in South Park Hill. It was added to the National Register on August 10, 1978.
Vine Street Houses
This historic district includes several houses on Vine Street: 1415, 1429, 1435, 1441, and 1453 Vine St. in Cheesman Park. It was listed on December 16, 1974.
Manuella C. Walters Duplex
The Manuella C. Walters Duplex is at 1728 and 1732 Gilpin Street in City Park West. It was listed on September 30, 2009.
West Side Court Building
The West Side Court Building is at 924 W. Colfax Avenue in Lincoln Park. It was added to the National Register on May 5, 2004.
Westside Neighborhood
The Westside Neighborhood is a historic district in Lincoln Park. It includes parts of Lipan St., Kalamath St., W. 14th Ave., Mariposa St., and W. 13th Ave. It was listed on April 17, 1975.
Zall House
The Zall House is at 5401 E. 6th Avenue Parkway in Hale. It was added to the National Register on November 9, 2005.
Zeitz Buckhorn Exchange
The Zeitz Buckhorn Exchange, also known as the Buckhorn Exchange, is at 1000 Osage Street in Lincoln Park. This famous spot was listed on April 21, 1983.
Former Listing
Sometimes, a place is removed from the National Register. This usually happens if it's no longer there or has changed too much.
Beierle Farm
The Beierle Farm was located near Watkins, north of Irondale Road. It was listed on December 23, 1992. However, it was removed from the list on November 7, 2007, because it was torn down.
