The Story of Nature's Path
Nature's Path was started in 1985 by Arran Stephens and Ratana Stephens. They began their company in British Columbia, Canada. Their very first product was called Manna Bread.
Before Nature's Path, Arran Stephens founded Lifestream in 1971. This was Canada's first big organic supermarket. He also sold a successful line of natural products. Lifestream was sold to Kraft in 1981. However, Arran Stephens bought it back in 1995. In September 2018, Nature's Path announced it would move its main office. It moved from Richmond to East Vancouver. Arran and Ratana's son, Arjan, became the President of Nature's Path in 2023.
Growing Organic Food
Nature's Path believes in organic farming. The company has bought a lot of organic farmland. They own about 2,880 acres in Saskatchewan. They share this land with family farmers. They also own about 2,760 acres in Montana. This includes a partnership and training program for new farmers. In total, Nature's Path owns about 5,640 acres of organic farmland.
Nature's Path also buys crops from many other independent organic family farmers. These farmers grow food on about 100,000 acres of organic land. Nature's Path helps these farmers by buying and processing their organic crops.
Supporting Non-GMO Foods
Since 2001, Nature's Path has been against GMOs. GMOs are genetically modified organisms. The company's founder, Arran Stephens, was an early supporter of The Non-GMO Project. He was also on its board. All Nature's Path products are tested to make sure they are Non-GMO Project Verified. This means they do not contain GMOs.
In 2013, Nature's Path helped make a movie called GMO OMG. The company also supported efforts to make food companies label GMOs. For example, they gave $600,000 to support Proposition 37 in California in 2012. This was a campaign to require GMO labeling. They also supported similar campaigns in Oregon and Colorado in 2014.
