Nautla is a town located in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Its name comes from the ancient Nahuatl language. The word Nautla means 'Four Places'. It is a place with a rich history and beautiful natural surroundings.
A Look Back in Time
Nautla was first a very old town, even before the Spanish arrived. This original town was located in a place called Casitas, Veracruz. In 1519, a group of native people called the Totonacos formed an alliance with the Spanish explorers. They fought a battle, and sadly, Nautla was destroyed by fire.
Later, in the 16th century, the king gave some land to a person named Juan de Cuenca. This land included the area where modern Nautla, San Sebastian, and La Peña are located. This allowed people to settle there again.

The town of Nautla is located between two important rivers: the Nautla River and the Misantla River. Both of these rivers flow into the Gulf of Mexico.
Nautla covers an area of about 358.63 square kilometers. This is a small part, about 0.49%, of the entire state of Veracruz. The area is known for its natural resources. Valuable wood from trees is a main resource here.

According to a census from the year 2000, there were 2,486 houses in Nautla. On average, about 3.93 people lived in each house. Most of these homes were owned by the people living in them. They were often built using materials like wood and rock.
