History of Nebraska, Indiana
The community of Nebraska was officially planned and mapped out in 1856. This process is called "platting." It means someone drew a detailed map showing where streets, lots, and buildings would be.
It is believed that Nebraska was named after the Nebraska Territory. At that time, the Nebraska Territory was a very important and much-discussed topic across the United States. Many people were talking about new territories and how they would be organized.
For many years, Nebraska had its own post office. This was a place where people could send and receive mail. However, the Nebraska post office closed down in 2002.
