Nechanitz is a small, unincorporated community located in north central Fayette County, Texas, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
About Nechanitz
Nechanitz is found where two roads meet: Farm to Market Road 3011 and Farm to Market Road 2145. It's about eleven miles north of a larger town called La Grange. This area is in the central part of Fayette County.
How Nechanitz Got Its Name
The area around Nechanitz was first settled in 1853. The very first person to settle there was a man named Wenzel Matejowsky. He was from a country called Bohemia, which is now part of the Czech Republic. Matejowsky named the new community "Nechanitz" after his hometown of Nechanice back in Bohemia. It's a way of remembering where he came from!
