Early Life and Music Journey

Nedunuri Krishnamurthy was born in 1927 in a place called Kothapalli, in Andhra Pradesh, India. At that time, India was under British rule. His parents were Rama Murthy Panthulu and Vijayalakshmi.

His father worked for the local king, Raja of Pithapuram. His mother loved to sing traditional songs like Ashtapadis and Tarangas. Her beautiful singing greatly inspired young Nedunuri as he grew up.

In 1940, Nedunuri joined the Maharaja's Music College in Vizianagaram. There, he learned to play the violin and sing from his first teacher, Dwaram Narasinga Rao Naidu. Later, in 1949, he met another great Carnatic singer, Sripada Pinakapani. Nedunuri learned a lot from him and developed his own unique singing style.

His alapanas, which are musical improvisations, were famous for capturing the true feeling of important Carnatic ragas (melodies). He often performed with the well-known violinist, Lalgudi Jayaraman. People loved listening to their music together.

Nedunuri also helped guide music education. He was the Dean of Fine Arts at Sri Venkateswara University. He also helped the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) with their Annamacharya Project. He helped set the tunes for many of the famous Annamacharya songs that we hear today.
