Neely's Bend facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Neely's Bend is a big curve in the Cumberland River located just northeast of Nashville, Tennessee. It's also south of Madison, a suburb of Nashville. This area covers many acres and is one of the most rural places left in Davidson County, Tennessee. It feels like the countryside, even though it's close to a big city.

Exploring Neely's Bend

Neely's Bend is known for its quiet, open spaces. It's a unique part of Davidson County because it still has large areas of undeveloped land. This includes several big farms, like a major horse farm.

Where is Neely's Bend?

This large bend in the Cumberland River is easy to spot on a map. It forms a big loop in the river. From neighborhoods across the river, like Donelson and East Nashville, you can often see the land inside the bend.

What's Special About the Land?

The southern part of Neely's Bend is especially rural. It has large farms and lots of natural space. At the very southern tip of the bend, there's a boat ramp. This ramp lets people launch boats onto the Cumberland River. The northern part of Neely's Bend is home to a middle school and an elementary school.

Peeler Park: A Place to Play

Peeler Park is a special place located at the southernmost point of Neely's Bend. It's managed by the Metropolitan Nashville Department of Parks and Recreation. As of 2006, much of the park was still being developed. Today, Peeler Park has a landing strip for model airplanes. It also features a new greenway, which is a path for walking or biking.

Getting Around Neely's Bend

One reason Neely's Bend has stayed so undeveloped is that it's a bit tricky to get to. There isn't a ferry or a bridge that crosses the Cumberland River directly from Neely's Bend into Nashville. To reach the southern end of the area, you have to use a narrow, two-lane road. This limited access helps keep the area peaceful and rural.
