The Neiva N621 Universal is a special airplane from Brazil. It's a propeller-driven aircraft, meaning it uses a spinning propeller to fly. This plane was built by a company called Indústria Aeronáutica Neiva. It's used for two main jobs: teaching new pilots how to fly (a basic trainer) and sometimes for ground attack missions. It's made of metal, has wings low on its body, and its landing gear can fold up into the plane after takeoff. Two pilots sit side-by-side in the cockpit.
Designing and Building the Universal
The Universal airplane was designed in 1963. The main goal was to create a new training plane for the Brazilian Air Force. It was meant to replace older planes like the T-6 Texan.
The very first Universal plane flew on April 29, 1966. The Brazilian Air Force liked it and ordered 150 planes, calling them the T-25 Universal. Later, in 1978, they ordered 28 more. A newer version, called the YT-25B Universal II, flew in 1978, but it was never mass-produced.
The Universal was also used for fighting small rebellions. Over time, a newer plane called the Tucano took over its roles for advanced training and attack missions. However, the Universal is still used today for basic pilot training at the Brazilian Air Force Academy.
Other countries also used the Universal. The Chilean Army ordered ten planes, which later went to the Chilean Air Force. In 1983, five of these planes were given to the Paraguayan Air Force. In 2005, the Brazilian Air Force also gave six T-25s to the Paraguayan Air Force and another six to the Bolivian Air Force.
