Nekimi, sometimes called Nekemi, is a small town in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States. In 2020, about 1,337 people lived there.

Two small communities, Fitzgerald and Ring, are also part of the town. A section of the land used for the big EAA AirVenture Oshkosh airshow is located within Nekimi.

Geography and Location

Nekimi is located in the state of Wisconsin. It covers a total area of about 74.6 square kilometers (28.8 square miles). Most of this area, 74.4 square kilometers (28.7 square miles), is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.3 square kilometers (0.1 square miles), is water.

Population and People

In 2000, there were 1,419 people living in Nekimi. These people lived in 526 households, and 413 of these were families. The town had about 19 people per square kilometer (49 people per square mile).

Most people in Nekimi were White (98.38%). A small number were Native American or from two or more races. About 0.42% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.

  • Casper Schmidt was a miller who came from Germany. He first lived in Nekimi before moving to Oshkosh. He later represented Oshkosh in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
  • Charles F. Simmons was a farmer born in Nekimi. He also became a Wisconsin State Representative.
