Nella Walker (born March 6, 1886 – died March 22, 1971) was an American actress. She was also a vaudeville performer. Vaudeville was a popular type of entertainment in the early 1900s. It included many different acts like singing, dancing, and comedy. Nella Walker acted in movies from the 1920s to the 1950s.

Her Acting Career

Early Life and Vaudeville

Nella Walker was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Walker. In 1910, she married a man named Wilbur Mack. Two years later, in 1912, Nella and Wilbur started a vaudeville act together. They called their team "Mack and Walker." Vaudeville was a very popular kind of live show back then.

Moving to Movies

By 1929, Nella Walker began her film acting career. Her first movie role was in a film called Tanned Legs. She appeared in three movies that year. She easily moved from silent films to "talkies" (movies with sound). In 1930, she acted in four more films. This was likely an easy change for her. She was not a famous silent film actress, so she adapted well to the new sound era.

Busy Years in the 1930s

In 1931, Nella's film career really took off. She appeared in 10 movies that year. Some of these roles were small and not listed in the credits. Her marriage ended around this time. From 1932 to 1933, she was in 15 films. Only five of these were uncredited roles.

Her career kept getting better in 1935. From 1935 to 1938, she appeared in 23 movies. One of her most notable roles during this time was in Young Dr. Kildare. In this movie, she acted alongside famous stars like Lionel Barrymore and Lew Ayres. Throughout the 1930s, Nella Walker had a strong career. She was never a top star, but she always had good acting parts. She finished the decade well in 1939, appearing in nine films. Only three of these were uncredited.

Later Career and Final Roles

The 1940s were also very successful for Nella Walker. She appeared in 37 films between 1940 and 1947. As she got older, she slowed down her acting work. She was over 60 years old when she took a break. Her next role was in 1950. She appeared in Nancy Goes to Rio with Ann Sothern and Carmen Miranda.

She acted in two more films in 1952. Her very last film role was in 1954. This was in the famous movie Sabrina. In this film, she acted with big stars like Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn.

Last Years

Nella Walker appeared in a total of 117 movies during her career. She lived in Los Angeles, California, for many years. She passed away there on March 22, 1971. She was 85 years old.
