The Nellaiappar Temple stands right in the middle of Tirunelveli city. Roads surround it on all four sides. These roads are usually busy with small shops, restaurants, and other local businesses. The city of Tirunelveli is also often called Nellai. This shorter name comes from the temple's main god, "Nellaiappar." The name "Nellaiappar" means "the Protector of Nellai." Who Built This Ancient Temple?

The Nellaiappar Temple was built a very long time ago. It was constructed by a ruler named Nindraseer Nedumaran. He was a king who ruled in the 7th century A.D. This means the temple is over 1300 years old! It is a wonderful example of ancient Indian architecture and faith.

Inside the Temple Grounds

Inside the temple complex, you will find a lovely flower garden. In the middle of this garden is a special building called a vasantha mandapam. This building is square-shaped and has 100 pillars supporting its roof. It's a very impressive sight!
