This small community has an interesting past. It was named after the state of Nevada.

Early Days and the Post Office

A post office opened in Nevada in 1870. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed down in 1921.

The Correctional Facility

In 1930, a special facility called the Oakdale Reformatory for Women opened in the area. Later, this facility became known as the Dwight Correctional Center. It was a place where people who had broken laws were held. This center was an important part of the community for a long time. However, it closed its doors in 2013.
