History of New Columbus
New Columbus started as a small farming town. It is located in the western part of Luzerne County. The area was first settled in 1819.
Later, in 1859, New Columbus officially became a borough. A borough is a type of town with its own local government. The community has not changed much since it was founded. Farming is still a very important way of life for many people in the borough.
Geography and Landscape
New Columbus is located at these coordinates: 41°10′21″N 76°17′22″W / 41.17250°N 76.28944°W. The borough covers a total area of about 8.04 square kilometers (3.10 square miles). All of this area is land.
The community mostly consists of farmland. You can find small groups of houses scattered throughout the borough. The main part of New Columbus, which has a few homes and businesses, is located where Old Tioga Turnpike and Academy Street meet.
