New Corydon is a small, unincorporated community located in Wabash Township, Jay County, Indiana. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
The Story of New Corydon
New Corydon was officially planned and mapped out in 1844. This process is called "platting." When a community is platted, it means someone has drawn up a map showing where streets, lots, and public areas will be.
The community got its name from another place in Indiana called Corydon, Indiana.
In the same year it was platted, 1844, a post office was opened in New Corydon. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1960.
