The Story of New England Coffee
How It All Began
In 1916, two brothers, Menelaos and George Kaloyanides, came to the United States from Greece. They decided to start their own business, which they called the New England Tea & Coffee Company. Their first location was in a building in Boston.
In the early days, coffee was roasted by hand. It was then delivered to customers around Boston using horses and wagons. By 1918, the company bought its first truck that ran on gasoline. Soon, more family members joined the growing business.
Growing and Moving
In 1966, New England Coffee moved to its current home in Malden, Massachusetts. The company now uses five buildings. They have greatly improved how they make and package their coffee.
The Kaloyanides family has led the business for four generations. They have traveled all over the world to visit coffee farms. James B. Kaloyanides, one of the leaders, even spent more than half a year in Costa Rica learning about coffee. In 2022, James B. returned to lead the company his great-grandfather started.
What They Offer
New England Coffee sells many different kinds of coffee. They have special blends, flavored coffees, and strong dark roasts. All their coffees are made with high-quality Arabica coffee beans. Some of their decaffeinated coffees have even been reviewed by Consumer Reports. In 2016, New England Coffee celebrated its 100th birthday!
