History of New Haven

New Haven was first planned as a village in 1815 by a person named Joab Comstock. In the 1800s, the village had a post office. However, it was known by a different name: "Preston."

Why it was called Preston

The name "Preston" was used for the post office because there was already another town called New Haven in Huron County, Ohio. To avoid confusion, the first postmaster, Alexander Preston Cavender, gave the post office the name "Preston."

New Haven is located in the western part of Crosby Township. It is about 22 miles (35 km) northwest of downtown Cincinnati. It is also about 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of the town of Harrison.
