New Lexington, also called Halberts, is a small community in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. New Lexington is located along U.S. Route 43, about 10.5 miles (16.9 km) north of a place called Samantha.

History of New Lexington
This community has an interesting past with two different names!
How Halberts Got Its Name
The area was first known as Halberts. It was named after a man named Joshua Halbert. He was one of the very first people to settle in Tuscaloosa County. Joshua Halbert also opened the first hotel in the city of Tuscaloosa.
Changing to New Lexington
Later, the community's name was changed to New Lexington. It's thought that this new name was chosen to honor Lexington, South Carolina.
Post Office History
A post office served the community for many years. It operated under the name Halberts from 1826 to 1836. Then, it changed its name to New Lexington and continued to operate until 1915.
