History of the Museum Building
The museum building was designed by an architect named Isaac Rapp. It was finished in 1917. The building is a great example of something called Pueblo Revival Style architecture. This style mixes ideas from Native American and Spanish Colonial designs. The front of the building looks like the old mission churches found in places like Acoma and San Felipe.
Art Collections
The museum has a huge art collection with over 20,000 pieces! These include paintings, photographs, sculptures, prints, drawings, and even mixed-media works. You can see art by famous artists like Ansel Adams, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Fritz Scholder. The collection also features works from groups like the Ashcan School and the Taos Society of Artists.

St. Francis Auditorium
Inside the New Mexico Museum of Art, there's a special place called the St. Francis Auditorium. This auditorium is used for many cultural events and music concerts. Groups like the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival perform here. It can hold up to 450 people. The auditorium has beautiful murals, which are large paintings on the walls. These murals show scenes of St. Francis of Assisi.
Museum Library
The museum also has a library. Here, you can find many art books, magazines, and information about the artists whose work is in the museum. The library also keeps catalogs from all the museum's art shows since 1917.
Vladem Contemporary Annex
A new part of the museum, called the Vladem Contemporary Annex, is set to open in September 2023. This new building will show the museum's modern art collections and special exhibits. It used to be an old warehouse from 1936, but it has been updated and given a new purpose. The annex is named after Bob and Ellen Vladem, who are generous supporters of the museum.
