New School (TV series) facts for kids

New School is a fun sitcom (a funny TV show) from Italy. It was made by DeA Kids, Beachwood Canyon Productions, and Maestro Production. The show first aired in December 2017. Good news! In 2019, BBC agreed to show it, so soon kids in other countries can watch it too!

What's the Show About?

The show follows a group of new students (called freshmen) at McGaffin International Middle School. This school has a super famous, but broken, flush toilet. Inside this toilet is the "Wall of Celebrities."

The Wall of Celebrities

The Wall of Celebrities is a special place where photos of the school's 12 most popular students are hung. These students are called "Legends" because they did amazing things. To get on the wall, students need to do something memorable. Then, other students vote for them using a special app called "App of the Wall of Celebrities." If you get one million points, you become a Legend and get your picture on the wall!

Meet the Characters

• Matteo Valentini plays Nick Rivellini. He's 11 and wants to be on the Wall of Celebrities. He hopes it will make him more popular and confident. Nick is friends with Rudy and likes Anna, but she doesn't like him back. He's a great singer but can't dance at all!
• Edoardo Tarantini plays Rudy Hansen. He's 11 and Nick's best friend since kindergarten. Rudy is also Alice's older brother. He can be clumsy but is very creative and kind. Rudy isn't too bothered about being popular or having a girlfriend. He loves sci-fi movies and superheroes, especially "Ragazzo Lupo." Rudy is terrible at singing but an amazing dancer. He even has a web channel where he shares his dance tutorials!
• Cloe Romagnoli plays Anna De Martino. She's 12 and friends with Nick and Rudy. Anna has a crush on Justin. She's smart and practical, but her crush on Justin can make her easily distracted.
• Noemi Brazzoli plays Vivien Mandelli. She's 12 and super popular at school. She's almost always at the top of the app's popularity list. Because she's so popular, hardly anyone dares to disagree with her. Vivien is also the head cheerleader. She loves herself a lot and often talks about herself in the third person. She's always taking selfies! In the first season, she starts dating Justin, not really because she likes him, but because she thinks the most attractive girl should date the most attractive boy. Vivien is allergic to cats.
• Diego Delpiano plays Justin Price. He's 12 and very popular. Justin loves sports and works hard to stay in shape. He exercises a lot to build strong muscles. However, he's not very smart and can be a bit naive. He has a teddy bear named Orso. Justin also has some childish habits, like being afraid of the dark and needing his teddy bear to sleep. Sometimes, he just starts laughing for no reason!
• Alice Papes plays Alice Hansen. She's 9 and Rudy's little sister. Alice is a genius! She often spends time in labs, working with test tubes or reading. She can invent amazing things and do advanced scientific research. She still sleeps with her stuffed toy, Piripocchio. But what she really wants is to be more included and have friends.
• Andrea Castronovo and Paolo Castronovo play Tim and Tom. They are identical twins. They don't study much. But they are cunning, strong, and work well together. This helps them get what they want, often by getting others to do their work or by cheating. They aren't interested in the Wall of Celebrities. But they often challenge others, especially Nick and Rudy, just for fun. It's almost impossible to tell them apart! However, Tim is allergic to cats, and Tom is not.
• Nicole Di Julio plays Charlotte. She joined the show in the second season. Charlotte is a tough bully and can scare everyone, even the principal! Her only weak spot is her big crush on Nick, whom she calls "Sogliola."
• Alberto Torquati plays Mr. Peter Spencer. He is the school principal. He tries to be strict with students, but they don't respect him much. The best way to get something from him is to give him compliments. Mr. Spencer has two ways to try and get students to listen: sending them to his office for punishment or taking their belongings. He is very scared of the superintendent, who watches him from afar. Mr. Spencer has many hobbies, like baking, but his life outside school is a mystery. He loves school traditions, history, special days, and ceremonies. He really looks up to the school's founder, Mr. McGaffin. One of his jobs is to make announcements every morning using the microphone in his office.
• Federica Fabiani plays Miss Mastermind. She is the school cook. She is a very serious woman and doesn't smile often. She also often uses sarcasm with students. But her attitude comes from a past love story with Mr. Spencer that didn't end well.
• Riccardo Diana plays the Superintendent. He never appears in person, but you hear his voice during phone calls. He checks on how the school is doing.

• In a first season episode called "il Vivienfest," Nick, Anna, and Rudy pretend to be a band called "Bandos." They perform a new song called Let the Music in. Teresa Pascarelli and Giovanni Maria Lori wrote it, and Matteo Valentini sings it.
• In another first season episode, "Il grande talent show," Rudy sings Listen to Me (but he's out of tune!). Nick actually sings this song. It's a new song written by Teresa Pascarelli and Giovanni Maria Lori, and sung by Matteo Valentini.
• In the second season episode "Il ballo di San Valentino - Seconda parte," the young singer Matteo Markus Bok performs his hit song In the Middle.
• In the second season episode "Vita da rocker," Nick, Rudy, and Vivien act as a rock group called "Gli schiaffi." They perform their biggest hit, Slaps. This is a new song written and composed by Teresa Pascarelli and Giovanni Maria Lori, and sung by Matteo Valentini.
