New Windsor (Māori: Niu Winiha) is a suburb in Auckland, New Zealand. It was founded in 1865. This area is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the Auckland city centre. It is located between other suburbs like Mount Albert, Blockhouse Bay, Mt Roskill, and Avondale.
History of New Windsor
In the early 1900s, New Windsor was mostly known for its market gardens. These were places where fruits and vegetables were grown for sale.
Later, in the 1950s and 1960s, the area started to change. More and more houses were built, turning it into a suburban neighborhood. During this time, it was officially called Avondale East.
In 1984, the name New Windsor became official. Before that, people just used "New Windsor" as a common nickname for the area.

Schools in New Windsor
New Windsor has two main primary schools for younger students:
- New Windsor School is a primary school for students in years 1 to 6. It is a coeducational school, meaning both boys and girls attend.
- Christ the King Catholic School is a state-integrated Catholic school. It teaches students from years 1 to 8. This school first opened in 1954. It was started as a private school by a group of nuns called the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. This school is also coeducational.
For older students, the local secondary schools are Avondale College and Lynfield College.
