Para-Alpine Skiing
Para-alpine skiing is a thrilling sport. Athletes ski down snowy mountains at high speeds. They use special equipment adapted for their needs. This sport includes different races like downhill and slalom.
Skiing Schedule and Training
Skiers had practice runs for the downhill race on March 7. Unfortunately, their practice runs on March 8 and 9 were cancelled.
The first event for para-alpine skiing was the downhill race. It took place on March 10. The Super-G race was next, on March 11. All skiers raced in the morning. The super combined event happened on March 13. This event has two parts: a Super-G run in the morning and a slalom run in the afternoon.
The slalom event started on March 14 and finished on March 15. Both women and men raced during the morning sessions. In the afternoon, women did their second run first. Then the men followed. The last para-alpine skiing race was the giant slalom. It happened on March 17 and 18. Men and women raced at the same time in the morning. In the afternoon, women raced first. Men raced about 30 minutes after the women finished.
Alpine Skiing Results
In the men's downhill sitting race, athletes competed for medals. Andrew Kurka from the United States won the gold medal. Taiki Morri from Japan earned the silver medal. Our very own Corey Peters from New Zealand won the bronze medal! This was a great achievement for New Zealand.
Para-Snowboarding
Para-snowboarding is another exciting winter sport. Athletes ride snowboards down a mountain. They also use special equipment to help them compete. Snowboarding events include snowboard cross and slalom.
Snowboarding Schedule
The snowboard cross event began on March 12. Both men and women from all classes competed. The slalom race was held on March 16. This race also included men and women from all classes.
