Newberry Crossroads, also known as Bid, is a small place in Cherokee County, Alabama, United States. It is an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that are part of a larger county, rather than having its own local government like a city or town.
The Story Behind the Name
Newberry Crossroads got its name from two different men, both named Newberry. One of these men owned a "gin." A gin was a machine used to separate cotton fibers from their seeds. The other Mr. Newberry owned a store.
For a while, the community also had a post office. This post office was open from 1894 to 1904. It was known by the name "Bid."
