Newfoundland Island is a small piece of land located just off the coast of Labrador. It sits close to the entrance of Sandwich Bay. This island is part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Many people who live nearby still call this island "Prisoner's Island."
Island Location and Neighbors
Newfoundland Island is surrounded by several other smaller islands. These islands create interesting waterways and harbors.
Islands to the East
To the east of Newfoundland Island, you will find Farrels Island. These two islands are connected when the tide is low. This means you can sometimes walk between them! In 1884, people lived on Farrels Island. Even further east is Independent Island. Together, Farrels Island and Independent Island help form a place called Independent Harbour.
Islands to the West
On the western side of Newfoundland Island, you can see Pigeon Island. To the northwest, there are Pickens Island and the Packs Harbour Islands. These islands all contribute to the beautiful coastal scenery of the area.
