Newland is a small place located in Pettis County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own separate local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's managed as part of the larger county area. You can find Newland in the northeast part of Pettis County, about eight miles northeast of a bigger city called Sedalia. It's situated right along Missouri Route EE.

A Glimpse into Newland's History

How Newland Got Its Name

Newland has a short but interesting history, especially when it comes to how it got its name. The community was named after a person named Judge William Henry Newland. He was considered a "pioneer citizen," which means he was one of the very first people to settle and help develop the area.

The Old Post Office

For a short time, Newland even had its own post office! This post office opened in 1892. It helped people send and receive letters and packages in the community. However, it didn't stay open for very long. The post office closed its doors in 1902, after about ten years of operation. Even without a post office, the name Newland has continued to mark this quiet spot in Missouri.
