Nguyen Anh 9 (born Nguyen Dinh Anh, January 1, 1940 – April 14, 2016) was a famous Vietnamese songwriter and pianist. He created many popular songs that people loved to listen to.
His Early Life
Nguyen Anh 9 was born in Ninh Thuan Province, Vietnam, on January 1, 1940. He grew up in cities like Nha Trang and Saigon. He went to school at Taberd and later studied in Da Lat.
His Music Career
Nguyen Anh 9 started writing songs by accident! He was touring Japan with singer Khanh Ly. One day, he picked up a guitar and sang some words that came to him: "Không! Không! Tôi không còn, tôi không còn yêu em nữa..." (which means "No! No! I'm no longer, I'm no longer in love with you...").
When they returned to Vietnam, Khanh Ly suggested he turn those words into a full song. He quickly finished his first song, called "Không" (No).
The song "Không" was first recorded by Khanh Ly. It became one of the most famous songs sung by Elvis Phuong. Elvis Phuong also sang other popular songs by Nguyen Anh 9, like "Ai đưa em về" (Who takes you home) and "Chia phôi" (Parting). These songs were very popular in the early 1970s.
