Early Life and Business
Niall Mellon grew up in Ballyroan, a place in County Dublin, Ireland. After finishing school, he began working with his father. His father had a business that helped people invest their money.
When Niall was 24, he started his own company. This company helped people get loans to buy homes. Over time, he grew his business interests. He worked on many successful building projects. These projects were in Great Britain and Ireland. Later, he faced some big financial challenges. He lost a large part of his wealth during a difficult time for banks in Ireland after 2008.
Helping Others Through Charity
In 2002, when he was 35, Niall Mellon decided to spend most of his time helping people. He visited South Africa and saw how many families lived in poverty. This experience deeply affected him.
He then created a charity called the "Niall Mellon Township Trust." He used a lot of his own money to start this group. The main goal was to build houses for people in poor communities. In 2013, he started another group called Mellon Educate. This new group focuses on building and fixing schools in South Africa and Kenya.
By March 2014, his charity had built around 22,000 houses. These homes provided shelter for about 120,000 South Africans.
