Charity (practice) facts for kids
Charity is all about helping people who need it. It's a kind and caring act where you give money, things, time, or effort to others without expecting anything back. For example, giving food or money to people who are poor is a type of charity.
People who are poor, sick, or hurt are often the ones who receive charity. If they don't get support, they might have to ask strangers for help, which is called begging. Others might get help from special groups called charitable organizations. These groups collect money and goods and then give them to those who need them.
Most charities focus on providing basic needs like food, water, clothes, healthcare, and a safe place to live. The most common way to give is by donating money. This money is then used to buy these important things. But charity can also mean other actions, like teaching children who don't have parents, donating blood, or giving money to help with medical research.
Giving to charity is also an important part of many religions. This religious giving is often called almsgiving or alms. For example, in Islam, it's known as zakat, and it's one of the five most important duties for Muslims.
