Niarada is located where Flathead and Sanders counties meet. Its name comes from the Salish language, Npq'ʷáqs, and the Kutenai language, yaqakxaǂq̓anwuʔkki.

Montana Highway 28 goes through Niarada. This highway can take you to other places nearby. If you drive east about 13 miles (21 km), you will reach Elmo. Elmo is located on the beautiful Flathead Lake. If you drive south about 34 miles (55 km), you will arrive in Plains. Plains is situated on the Clark Fork.
