A Nice biscuit (say it like "niece") is a simple, thin biscuit. It often tastes like coconut. These biscuits are shaped like a rectangle with rounded edges. They have small bumps along the sides.
You'll often see the word "NICE" pressed into the top. This word is written in capital letters without fancy swirls. The biscuit is usually sprinkled with large sugar crystals. People often eat Nice biscuits with hot drinks, like tea.

What is a Nice Biscuit?
The name "Nice" probably comes from the city of Nice in the south of France. In 1929, an advertisement for Huntley & Palmers Nice Biscuits said they were "Delightful as the town after which they are named." This shows that companies wanted people to connect the biscuit with the French city.
How It Looks and Tastes
A Nice biscuit is usually light golden in color. It has a crisp texture. The coconut flavor is mild and sweet. The sugar crystals add a nice crunch. Its simple taste makes it a popular snack.
Where Did Nice Biscuits Come From?
Nice biscuits have a long history. An Army and Navy Co-operative Society price list from 1895 mentioned a Nice biscuit. This shows they were around a long time ago.
Early Makers
The British company Huntley & Palmers made Nice biscuits as early as 1904. Another company, Arnott's Biscuits from Australia, also says they invented the Nice biscuit. Today, many different companies sell Nice biscuits. You can find them in most countries that were once part of the British Commonwealth. They are also sold in other parts of the world.
A Dutch Favorite
In the Netherlands, a biscuit maker called Verkade makes a version called "Nizza." They started making it in 1910. Verkade says their Nizza biscuit is the most loved cookie in the Netherlands. In 2010, to celebrate their 125th anniversary, Verkade even released a new cinnamon Nizza biscuit.
