Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Nicholas Dáll Pierce (born around 1561 – died 1653) was a famous Irish musician. He played the harp and also wrote his own music, making him a composer. People often called him "blind Nicholas Pierce" because he couldn't see.

Nicholas lived in a place called Rattoo in County Kerry, Ireland. He was very well-known for his amazing harp playing, even though he was blind.

A Talented Musician and Composer

Nicholas Dáll Pierce was celebrated for his ability to create sad songs called laments, and other old tunes. He was so good that three special poems were written to praise him!

At one point, it seems he had some trouble with the government. Records from 1601 show that Queen Elizabeth and her leaders in Ireland gave Nicholas Dáll Pierce, along with nine other people, a special pardon. This means they were forgiven for something they were accused of.

His fame as a harp player and as a composer of laments and other songs was truly special. The three poems written in his honor show just how much people admired his musical talents.
