Nicholas Lindsay (born September 3, 1992) is a former Canadian soccer player. He played as a forward, which is like a striker who tries to score goals.

Nicholas started his soccer journey in 2009 with the TFC Academy. This was a special team for young players in the Canadian Soccer League (CSL). He then moved up to play professionally in 2010 with Toronto FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). After three years in the MLS, he returned to the CSL in 2013. He even helped his team win a big championship, the CSL Championship, in 2015.

Playing Soccer: Nicholas Lindsay's Career

Early Years and Youth Teams

Nicholas Lindsay started playing soccer at a young age. In 2004, he played for the Brampton East Chiefs. His team made it to the finals of the Robbie Tournament for players under 12. Even though his team lost, Nicholas was chosen as the best player for his team in that game.

In 2005, he joined the Brampton Blast. They reached the finals of the under-13 Ontario Cup. Nicholas played against his old team, the Brampton East Chiefs, and scored a goal that helped the Blast win the championship!

The next year, Nicholas stayed with the Brampton Blast. He helped the under-14 team win three big titles in one season. This is called a "treble" in soccer. First, they won the Ontario Youth Soccer League championship. Then, they won a provincial tournament. After that, they went to the under-14 national championship and won that too! Nicholas also scored the winning goal in his third Ontario Cup final for the under-15 team.

He was also a member of the special Ontario provincial team, which picks the best players from the province.

Joining TFC Academy

In 2009, Nicholas joined the senior academy team for Toronto FC. This team played in the Canadian Soccer League (CSL). In his first year, he helped the team get into the playoffs. They finished fourth in their division. However, they were knocked out in the first round by the Serbian White Eagles.

He continued to play for the academy team in 2010. Nicholas even scored three goals in one game (a "hat-trick") against the Chilean team Colo-Colo in a friendly match. While playing for the academy, he also got a chance to play for the main Toronto FC team. His first big game was in the 2010 Canadian Championship against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Playing for Toronto FC

Nicholas first played for Toronto FC as a substitute in the 2010 Canadian Championship. Toronto tied that game, which helped them win the championship. He also played in a friendly match against Bolton Wanderers.

On September 15, 2010, Nicholas officially signed with the main Toronto FC team. He was only the second player from their academy to join the professional team. He made his first start for Toronto FC on September 22, 2010, in a CONCACAF Champions League game against the Mexican team Cruz Azul.

He made his MLS debut on October 2, 2010. He came into the game in the second half and helped set up a goal for his teammate. Nicholas also got another assist in a game against Columbus. He played in another continental tournament game on October 19, 2010.

Nicholas missed the entire 2011 season because of a knee injury. He hurt his left ACL (a major knee ligament) in a snowmobiling accident. After recovering, he returned in 2012 and played in the CSL playoffs with the academy team. His last game for the main Toronto FC team was on October 25, 2012, in a continental tournament match.

After the 2012 season, Toronto FC decided not to keep Nicholas on their team.

Playing in the CSL Again

After leaving Toronto FC, Nicholas went back to play in the Canadian Soccer League (CSL) in 2013. He joined a new team called Burlington SC. He scored the very first goal in the club's history! Nicholas was the top goal scorer for Burlington that year, with 11 goals. He played for Burlington again in 2014.

In 2015, he joined another CSL team, Toronto Croatia. He helped them finish second in their division and make it to the playoffs. Toronto Croatia won their first playoff game. Then, they beat the York Region Shooters to reach the championship finals. In the final game, Toronto Croatia won the championship!

The next year, Nicholas signed with the York Region Shooters because Toronto Croatia left the league. He helped the Shooters win their division title. They won their first playoff game but were later knocked out in a penalty shootout.

College Soccer Career

In 2013, Nicholas also started playing college soccer for Sheridan Bruins. In his first season, he was the top goal scorer in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association. He scored 11 goals in just 6 games!

Playing for Canada

Nicholas represented Canada in the Danone Nations Cup in 2004. In 2010, he was chosen to play for the Canada men's national under-20 soccer team. He was supposed to play in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship in 2011, but he missed it because of his knee injury.
