Early Life and Family Connections

Nicholas Ward was born on December 5, 1750. He was the oldest son of Bernard Ward, who was the 1st Viscount Bangor. His mother was Lady Ann Bligh. Her father was John Bligh, the 1st Earl of Darnley.

Nicholas had two younger brothers. Their names were Edward Ward and Robert Ward. The Ward family was well-known in Ireland.

Education at Oxford

Nicholas Ward received a good education. In 1769, he went to Christ Church, Oxford. This is a very old and famous university in England. He studied there to prepare for his future.

A Career in Irish Politics

Nicholas Ward began his political journey in 1771. He joined the Irish House of Commons. This was a part of the Irish Parliament, similar to today's government.

He represented the town of Bangor in Parliament. He served in this role for five years, until 1776.

Becoming Viscount Bangor

In 1781, Nicholas Ward's father passed away. Nicholas then inherited his father's title. He became the 2nd Viscount Bangor. This meant he was now a member of the Irish House of Lords. The House of Lords was another part of the Irish Parliament, usually for noblemen.

Later Life and Succession

Later in his life, around 1785, Nicholas Ward faced some challenges. His family, including his brother Edward and his uncle Sir John Parnell, asked the Irish House of Lords to make a decision about his ability to manage his affairs. The House of Lords decided that he was not able to handle his responsibilities.

Nicholas Ward passed away on September 11, 1827. He was 76 years old. He died at his home, Castle Ward. He never married, so he did not have any children to inherit his title directly. After his death, his nephew, Edward Ward, became the 3rd Viscount Bangor.
