Channel History
Starting as Nick Hits
The channel first started on August 2, 2007. It was called Nick Hits back then. It launched in the Netherlands and Belgium. At that time, the channel showed ads and promotions in Dutch.
Becoming NickMusic
On February 1, 2017, the channel changed its name. Nick Hits became NickMusic. This was a big change for the channel.
Expanding to New Places
On July 1, 2020, NickMusic changed how it worked. It stopped showing local ads and promotions. At the same time, NickMusic became available in Australia. It took the place of another channel called [V]. A few days later, on July 6, 2020, NickMusic also became available in New Zealand.
On June 1, 2021, NickMusic replaced MTV Music 24 in Europe. Later, the channel also started broadcasting in Africa and the Middle East.
Why a Czech License?
The channel has a special license from the Czech Republic (called RRTV). This helps the channel keep broadcasting legally in the European Union. This was important after the United Kingdom left the European Union. The Czech Republic was chosen because it has simple rules for broadcasting. Even though it has a Czech license, the channel's main office is still in London.
