Nick Royle (born in 1983) is a well-known former rugby union player from England. He was famous for playing as a winger. A winger is a player who runs fast down the side of the field to score tries. Nick also played for the England Sevens team, which is a faster, shorter version of rugby.

He played for many clubs, including Caldy, where he became one of the best try scorers. A try is like a touchdown in American football, worth five points in rugby. By 2018, he had scored over 190 tries in the National League 2 North, which is a huge achievement! Nick also helped his county team, Lancashire, win the Bill Beaumont Cup three times.

Nick's Rugby Journey

Early Career and Club Moves

Nick Royle started his rugby journey in 2002 playing for Manchester. This team was in the second-highest league in English rugby at the time. He played in many games, often coming on as a substitute, and scored several tries.

The next year, he moved to Liverpool St Helens. This team was in a lower division, but Nick still played well. After that, in the summer of 2004, he tried a different type of rugby called rugby league. He played for two big teams, Widnes Vikings and Warrington Wolves, in the top league called Super League.

Return to Rugby Union and Fylde Success

Even though he played in the Super League, Nick decided to return to rugby union in 2005. He joined Sale Sharks, a top-tier team. However, Sale Sharks loaned him to Fylde, a local team in the fourth division.

At Fylde, Nick really shined! In his first season, he scored 16 tries. The next year, he became the top try scorer in the league with an amazing 31 tries. He even scored seven tries in one game, which was a record for the division! Fylde finished in 5th place that year. His great performance led to him being chosen for the England Counties XV team in 2007. He played three games and scored three tries for them.

International and County Honors

Over the next few seasons, Nick continued to score lots of tries for Fylde. His talent was noticed, and he was called up to play for the England Sevens team in 2009. He also played for the England Counties XV again and even the famous Barbarians team.

Nick was also a key player for the Lancashire county team. He helped them win the Bill Beaumont Cup in 2009, scoring a try in the final at Twickenham. They won the cup again in 2010! In 2009, he also toured South Korea and Japan with the England Counties XV, scoring two tries.

In the 2011-12 season, Nick was called up by the England Sevens team once more. He was the best try scorer in the Sevens Grand Prix Series that year, scoring 35 tries!

Playing for Vale of Lune and Caldy

In 2012, Nick moved to Vale of Lune, a team three divisions below Fylde. While there, he broke the club's record for most tries in a season, scoring 38 tries in the 2013-14 season! He also helped Lancashire win the 2013 Bill Beaumont Cup for the third time, scoring five tries in the tournament.

Nick then joined Caldy in 2014. He continued his amazing try-scoring form. In the 2015-16 season, he was the top try scorer in his division with 25 tries. He also became the all-time top try scorer in the National League 2 North!

The 2016-17 season was very successful for Nick and Caldy. He scored 32 tries, making him the top try scorer in the division for a record third time. Caldy also won the league and were promoted to National League 1, which was the highest level the club had ever reached! He kept scoring tries in the higher league, but Caldy was relegated in 2019.
