Nicola Scaife is an amazing Australian hot air balloon pilot. She was born in 1984 or 1985. Nicola is famous for winning the FAI Women's World Hot Air Balloon Championship two times. She won in 2014 and again in 2016.

Early Life and Career Start

Nicola Scaife grew up in Albury, New South Wales, Australia. When she was a teenager, Nicola was a talented athlete. She represented Australia in marathon kayaking. Sadly, an injury made her stop competing in kayaking.

After her kayaking career ended, Nicola took a hot air balloon flight with her mother. This experience sparked her interest in ballooning. She began working for a hot air balloon company. At first, she helped with office tasks and support.

Becoming a Pilot

Nicola started learning to fly hot air balloons in 2006. By 2007, she earned her private pilot's license. This allowed her to fly balloons for fun. Later, she became a Commercial Pilot. This meant she could fly balloons for businesses and competitions.

Hot Air Ballooning Achievements

Nicola Scaife is a very successful competitive hot air balloonist. Her first competition was in 2013. It took place in Canowindra, New South Wales.

Winning World Championships

In 2014, Nicola competed in the first-ever Women's World Hot Air Balloon Championship. This big event was held in Leszno, Poland. It was only her fourth competition ever. Despite being new to competitive flying, Nicola won the gold medal!

She successfully defended her title in July 2016. This was at the 2nd FAI Women’s World Hot Air Balloon Championship. The competition was held in Birštonas, Lithuania. Winning twice in a row showed her incredible skill.

In 2018, Nicola continued her success. She won a bronze medal at the 3rd FAI Women's World Hot Air Balloon Championship. This event was held in Nałęczów, Poland.

Running a Business

Today, Nicola Scaife and her husband run their own hot air balloon company. Their business is located in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia. They share their love for ballooning with others.
