In 1962, Nicolae moved to Steagul Roșu Brașov. He made his debut in Divizia A, the top Romanian league, on September 23, 1962. His team won that first game 4–2 against Știința Cluj.
Pescaru played for Steagul Roșu Brașov for 19 seasons! For about 13 or 14 of those years, he was the team's captain. He was famous for telling his teammates: "You have to defend the honor of being flagbearers!"
European Competitions and Loyalty
During his time at Brașov, the team finished fourth in the top league in the 1964–65 season. He also played in 11 European matches. He even scored a goal in a 4–2 win against Espanyol Barcelona in 1965.

End of Playing Career
Nicolae Pescaru played his last top-league match on November 23, 1980. He played a total of 311 games in the top league, scoring 62 goals. This made him the player with the most appearances and goals for Steagul in that league.
