Breaza is a town in Prahova County, Muntenia, Romania. It is a charming place located in a beautiful natural setting. The town is made up of ten villages that are all managed together. These include Breaza de Jos, Breaza de Sus, Frăsinet, Gura Beliei, Irimești, Nistorești, Podu Corbului, Podu Vadului, Surdești, and Valea Târsei.

Exploring Breaza's Location
Breaza is found at the base of the Baiu and Bucegi mountains. It sits at an elevation of about 450 meters (about 1,476 feet) above sea level. The town is built along the banks of the Prahova River. This river flows through the southern part of the famous Prahova Valley. Breaza is in the northwest part of Prahova County. It is about 42 kilometers (26 miles) away from Ploiești, which is the main city of the county.
A Glimpse into Breaza's Past
The name Breaza comes from an old Slavic word, breza. This word means "birch tree."
The first time Breaza was mentioned in official papers was in 1503. A document from that year talks about a trader from Breaza named "Neagoe." Later, in 1622, the land of Breaza was divided among four boyars. Boyars were powerful noblemen in Eastern Europe. In 1717, Nicolae Mavrocordat, the new ruler of Wallachia, gave the Breaza estate to another boyar, Iordache Crețulescu.
The land was later divided again in 1921 due to a land reform. In 1935, Breaza was officially recognized as a spa town. This meant people could visit for its natural healing properties.
Life and Economy in Breaza
Many people in Breaza work in farming. They also create beautiful traditional needlework. Some residents travel to nearby towns like Comarnic and Câmpina for work. Tourism is also very important for Breaza's economy. Many locals rent out rooms to visitors during the summer months.
Breaza is known for its lovely natural surroundings. It is located among rolling hills, making it a popular spot for vacation homes. Many people from Bucharest, Romania's capital, own holiday houses here. Famous people, like the poet Adrian Păunescu, also had second homes in Breaza.
The town is also home to a folk art museum. This museum shows off local traditions and crafts. There is also a military high school here, called the Dimitrie Cantemir Military National College.
