About Nicole Dorsey's Early Life and Education
Nicole Dorsey grew up in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. She went to M.M. Robinson High School. Later, she studied film at Ryerson University, where she learned all about making movies.
Nicole Dorsey's Career in Film
Starting in the Movie Industry
When Nicole Dorsey was 18, she began working in the film industry. Her first job was helping with props on the TV show Rick Mercer Report. Props are all the objects used in a movie or TV show.
Directing Short Films
Before making her first full-length movie, Nicole Dorsey directed several short films. These smaller movies helped her practice her skills. Some of her short films include Ivadelle (made in 2009), Pop the Grapes (2013), Dennis (2015), Star Princess (2015), and Arlo Alone (2018).
Her First Feature Film: Black Conflux
Nicole Dorsey's first feature film, Black Conflux, was shown at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. This was a big moment for her career. The film was later chosen for Canada's Top Ten list for 2019. It also received a nomination for the John Dunning Best First Feature Award at the 8th Canadian Screen Awards in 2020.
Recent Projects
Nicole Dorsey also directed a six-episode TV series called Something Undone for CBC Gem. As of 2025, she is working on her second feature film, Balestra. This movie is a thriller about fencing. It is being made as both a full-length film and a limited TV series.
