Nicole Y. Weekes is an American scientist who studies how our minds and bodies react to stress. She is a psychologist, which means she studies how people think and behave. She is also a neuroscientist, meaning she studies the brain and nervous system.
Dr. Weekes is a professor at Pomona College in Claremont, California. She teaches about psychology and neuroscience there.
Her Journey in Science
Early Education
Nicole Weekes went to Boston University for her first college degree. After that, she earned her advanced degree, called a doctorate, from the University of California, Los Angeles. This high level of education prepared her for a career in science.
Teaching and Leadership
Dr. Weekes started teaching at Pomona College in 1998. She helps students learn about the brain and how people think.
In 2016, she took on an extra role as an Associate Dean of Faculty. This means she helped lead efforts to bring more different kinds of people to teach at the college.
Dr. Weekes is also a very good teacher. She has won the Wig Distinguished Professor Award three times (in 2001, 2006, and 2011). This award is the highest honor a professor can receive at Pomona College for their teaching.
