The Nieva River is an important river in Peru. It is a tributary, which means it's a smaller river that flows into a larger one. The Nieva River flows into the Marañón River.
This river runs through two areas in Peru: Bongara and Condorcanqui. These areas are part of the Amazonas Region. The Nieva River is about 150 kilometers long. It starts in the Campanquiz mountain range in the east and flows until it reaches the Marañón River.
Protecting the Nieva River
A special area around the Nieva River has been set aside for protection. This area is called the Nieva River Reserved Zone. It covers about 363.48 square kilometers (140.34 square miles).
This reserved zone is located in the Yambrasbamba District. This district is part of the Bongara Province. The main goal of this zone is to protect the amazing variety of plants and animals that live there. This is known as high biodiversity.
The reserved zone also helps make sure that local people have access to clean drinking water. This is especially important for the Awajún communities who live in the area. Protecting the river helps both nature and the people who depend on it.
